Here we go again..

As many of you know when I had Paige I had a rough start with the breastfeeding thing. Apparently I was starving my own child and had no idea, maybe that is the reason she always wants food now-that is a blog for another time I suppose. Anyways, I figured out the problem after going to a lactation specialist. Well today I took Coen in for his 6 month visit and found out he was is the 5th % for weight and no that is not a typo, he really is in the 5th %. My Dr. was a little concerned because he has been going down every visit. At his 2 months he was at 70th then at 4 months he was at 40th and now is in the single digits. He thinks it is a intake issue. With Paige she was extremely fussy so when I realized that it was because she wasn't getting enough to eat the fussiness made sense. But Coen is always so happy. It is extremely rare for this child to cry or fuss. So how was I to know he was hungry. So for a month my Dr. wants me to feed Coen formula after every feeding and then feed him baby food twice a day. He said to give it a month and come back and we will see if he has gained any weight. If he hasn't gained any weight then we will have to look into another explanation like a thyroid problem or something. So once again I am starving my own child and didn't know it.

michelle,
I had the same problem with Logan. Little did I know that is was a family thing, not having enough milk. Any how, there are a lot of things that you can do to increase your milk supply.
Brewer's Yeast-comes in pill form really easy to take.
More milk by motherlove- put it in water.
Lactate support by gaia herbs- comes in pill form
T-FLO by dial herbs- tincture you put under your tongue or in water.
just go to your health food store and they can help you find things.

Lactate support and T-FLO are really the best because they have the three main things that you need to increase your milk; Marshmallow root, fennel, and blessed thistle. What ever you take just make sure that these are in it.

You can also get blessed thistle the plant, and make tea out of it and drink it everyday.

After I started to do these things I haven't had a problem with any of my other children. In fact Tyler is in the 90th % for weight. He was 13 lbs 11 oz at 2 months!

So anyhow, I feel for you. It's not a fun thing to go through but at least there are things that we can do to help our bodies out :]

good luck

I'm so sorry you're having problems! I can sort of relate in that both my boys have always been in the 5% for weight, from about 2 months on. I would worry that they weren't getting enough while I was nursing, but their pediatrician just concluded that my kids are very lightweight. Because they continued to grow lenghtwise (they both are/were always over the 50% for length), the MD wasn't concerned. Nursing is SO hard because you don't know if they're getting enough. Although with Coen who is always happy, you'd think that he would be full. Oh, good luck. That can be stressful, which isn't good for your milk supply either!

That is good that you know that atleast! I am guilty of not taking Tori for her appointments. I really am going to take her this month.

So I don't make good enough milk for my kids either. my kids are usually small, but I almost ALWAYS give them at least one bottle a day because they are always starving by the end of the day. Eventually my Milk supply is gone by six months so they are straight bottles and baby food. I was just not made to be a milk cow and I'm fine with that. I have NEVER made enough milk for my kids. Always starving them. I totally feel you
